About
Opera, taken seriously
and a little strangely
Opera Talk is a single-author project. I write about opera the way I would write about a painting or a long novel — slowly, with a willingness to follow a thread sideways through art history, queer studies, libretto criticism, and whatever happens to be on my mind or desk that week.
I am most interested in the work being made right now, especially by composers and librettists the inherited canon keeps pushed aside. Du Yun. Damien Geter. Kaija Saariaho. Missy Mazzoli. Huang Ruo. Anthony Davis. The list is long and getting longer.
I do not want this site to be a magazine. There is no homepage feed of news, no rolling reviews, no engagement bait. I want it to be a place you arrive at on purpose, and stay in for a while.
